Clanwilliam
In Clanwilliam we stayed in a traditional Dutch thatched longhouse. The rooms were dark and cool and flag-stoned and had dark wood cupboards set into the walls - all of which were painted white, inside and out. The ceilings were boarded with big old dark wide boards and there was an enormous fireplace, like an old inglenook which isn't used any more but has lovely old cupboards built into it - even those must have been put in about 100 years ago so the building has probably seen many changes in its time. It's set in about an acre of the most eccentric garden, sort of mini stage sets through which you walk from one to the next.
